Q. Can we bring in an outside AV company to a hotel/venue with their own in-house AV?

A. Yes! Hotels and other venues often have some kind of in-house AV, whether it's basic equipment or large-scale setups. Your sales/event manager may assume you'll be using their in-house AV, and present it to you in a way that makes you think that's your only option. Sometimes, there's a (usually negotiable) Outside Vendor fee, but more often than not, even if you're charged the fee, bringing in your trusted audiovisual partner is going to cost you less. Hotels and venues charge for the AV, then charge extremely high hourly tech fees, plus setup and teardown labor, plus a service fee that is sometimes as high as 25%, even though you're already paying for labor.
